Sylvania Wilderness Hike

This weekend I had the privilege of sharing one of my favorite trips across the Sylvania Wilderness and Recreation Area with Conserve School students Jake, Luke, Kaylee, David, Alex, Pat, Kellie, and Koty. We were accompanied by my golden retrievers Teddy and Copper. This was one of a variety of optional weekend activities that students could choose to participate in.

Jake, Luke, Kaylee, David, Alex, Pat, Kellie, and Koty on the Sylvania border at the start of the day.

We started our adventure by fueling ourselves with a stop at the Pine Cone Cafe in Land O’ Lakes. We then drove around to the northern border of the Sylvania Wilderness and Recreation Area and began our hike on Crooked Lake. The first few minutes of our journey had us weaving around an ice fishing village on the north end of Crooked Lake. However, we soon left all signs of other people behind and found ourselves breaking trail through a variety of snow conditions. A good time was had by all and four hours later we warmed up with hot cocoa at the Sky Blue Cafe in the Lowenstine Academic Building.

  1. To say one has hiked across the Sylvania Wilderness Area is no small achievement.
    Congratulations to all those involved!
