Drying Out and Cleaning Up after Exploration Week

At Conserve School, students learn how to prepare properly for wilderness trips and how to care for gear afterwards, too, so that it lasts a long time and is in good shape for the next trip. Here, you can see students setting up tents in the school gym to dry out, washing off tarps, unpacking sleeping bags to let them dry out thoroughly before being stored, and taking care of all the other little jobs necessary to keep equipment in top shape.

I stopped by the gym early this morning while students were cleaning up, and they were all pitching in with smiles on their faces. The students are really just great to be with, and so good about pitching in and helping wherever help is needed.

In between the shots of students cleaning up, you can see a few of them relaxing in the dining room.

Staff and students are just beginning to post photos of the trips, so I’ll be sharing some of those with you soon.
