Conserve School Student Speaks Out in the Local Press

Conserve School’s Environmental Communication class is designed to instruct students in the importance and the methods of standing up and speaking out on environmental issues.

Conserve Student Bace Poplawski

It is meant to give students a voice on the issues they care most about. In a recent assignment, students discussed the power of the press. They studied the history, the present, and speculated about the future of newspapers.  After studying the role of the “Letters to the Editor” section as a community forum, each student researched, wrote, and submitted a letter to the local newspaper for publication on an issue close to their heart.

It is a real-life lesson in having their voices heard, in participating in the great national debate. Below you will find one example of a Conserve student adding his voice to that great debate (click on the image below to see a larger version):

Bace’s letter was also published on the Vilas County News-Review’s website.
