Getting Ready for the Holidays

I wish I could say there was a crisp chill in the air, or that a blanket of fresh white snow covers the campus and sets our minds and hearts on jingle bells and sugar plums. In reality we are experiencing a sort of Indian summer this November but none the less the holiday season is upon us. The campus is quiet as the students are off this week for Thanksgiving break but we are using this time to spread and festoon the place with holiday cheer. And just as the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who learned in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” even without all the expected things, for us that means snow and ice , the holidays will come just the same……..

How could it be so?
It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
It came without packages, boxes or bags!
And he puzzled three hours, `till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.
Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”

So whatever the weather we will plan to make merry and celebrate together these last weeks of 2009. Once the students return the festivities can begin! This year the students are excited to decorate the house apartments. The girls are planning on hiking out Monday afternoon in search of the perfect holiday tree for our house apartment. We figure it will be a twofold adventure – we can enjoy a guided afternoon hike as our afternoon activity and bring back a tree to put in the apartment and decorate. I also have heard rumors of the houses hosting holiday parties with cookie decorating. In addition, Dining Services and Student Life are planning a Home for the Holidays special dinner party later in December.

So stay tuned into our blog to hear more about life at Conserve School and maybe, just maybe your heart will grow three sizes too as you learn more about who we are and what we are doing.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

  1. Thank you to all of the staff at Conserve School. Each of you have touched our family as a family-away-from Kath’s family.

Have a very merry holiday season — and a white Christmas.
