Visit to Moondeer Gallery

group

This past week Conserve School Art Teacher Nancy Schwartz took advantage of one of our all-afternoon Wednesday long blocks to take her painting and drawing class to visit local artist Sara Muender at her Moondeer Gallery in Boulder Junction. Nancy reports:

It was a delightful, nourishing and inspiring trip! Sara Muender gave the students a short demo of blind contour drawing, which is the basis of many of her colorful paintings. The students then spent some time scattered throughout the gallery drawing in their journals. It was a good opportunity to visit with a practicing, successful artist and to interact with her in a very friendly, comfortable way. The day was a pleasure – I have enjoyed these occasional, special half day classes!

In blind contour drawing, the artist sketches the edges, or contours, of the subject without taking the pen off the paper and while looking only at the subject, not the paper. The exercise is intended to help the artist develop the connection between the hand and the eye.
