Service Team Feeds the Birds (in the Rain)

Feeding the Birds 10-21-09 003

Andy's height comes in handy as he hangs a feeder on the highest bracket outside of the library windows.

During last week’s Community Service Team time (Wednesday 4:15-5:30), the Conserve School Sustainability Service Team got the bird feeders out, cleaned them, filled them with seed, and hung them in the commons area between the residence houses and outside the library windows. We always put the birdfeeders away in the spring once the snow has melted and the birds can easily find food, in part because they attract bears, but with temperatures and snow both starting to fall, we thought it was the right time to start supplementing the birds’ diet again.

The Sustainability Team takes care of sustainability-related tasks around campus like recycling and composting as well as stewardship projects like the bird feeders, the apiary, the community garden, and maple syrup production in the spring.

Here are some photos of the group filling up the feeders in a cold drizzle last Wednesday.
