A Good Excuse to Flip Your Canoe

Our student body, faculty and staff are readying for our Fall Exploration Trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).  We leave Saturday, September 12th , and will spend five days and four nights on trail.  These photos show our students working with the Graduate Fellows on the Activity Team to hone their canoeing skills. (See the full slideshow above.) What you see are students carrying out a canoe T-rescue.  In this technique, one canoe comes to the rescue of another canoe that has flipped over.  The four canoeists work together as a team to right the capsized canoe and assist in getting the canoers back in their canoe and on their way.  Besides learning a valuable back country canoe skill, this exercise is an excellent teamwork builder. As you can see a great time was had by one and all!
